What Will I See on Chernobyl Live?
The Chernobyl Online Virtual Tour will take you inside the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant with a full package of information about this place. BTW, did you know that the CHNPP was supposed to have 12 reactors, altogether? Yeah! We will also talk about that!
The Central Control Room (CCR-1)
With our host guide and virtual guide from NPP you will see the Central Control Room (CCR-1) for the open switchgear management and plant shift supervisor workplace; The Unit control room (UCR), from which all major technological processes were controlled during the reactor’s operation.
You will also stop by the unique defense construction intended to protect personnel in emergency situations at the Chernobyl NPP, which was also used in 1986, on that fateful day.
What about a rare electronic computer, which appeared in 1973 at the Leningrad NPP and later was also installed at Chernobyl NPP? Yep, that’s also in the program!
«SCALA » — Leningrad NPP Apparatus (Reactor) Control System. It was the central information chain that unified most of the power unit control systems into a single automated NPP process control system. It monitored and recorded reactor conditions and control board inputs. It was wired to accept 7200 analog signals and 6500 digital signals. The system continuously monitored the plant and displayed this information to operators. This program took 5 to 10 minutes to run, and could not directly control the reactor.
Main Circulating Pumps
How about standing on the reactor? No problem! Let’s enter the Central Hall where technological processes took place. Want more technical stuff? Then don’t miss Unit 3 Main Circulating Pumps (MCP), which supplied water to the reactor core.
Valery Khodemchuk Memorial plaque
Together with the guides, you’ll visit the Valery Khodemchuk Memorial plaque and commemorate the MCP operator who died during the performance of his duties, unfortunately, his body was not found.
Control room 4
And now we’ve saved the best for last — Unit 4 Control Room (UCR 4)! It is the premise with a partially dismantled Unit control panel equipment at the actual Unit where the accident occurred.
To get more knowledge and understanding about the destruction of the Chernobyl NPP, you will take a look at the SO Observation Pavilion. At the extraordinary and detailed mock-up of the Shelter object, you will be told the story of the construction of the first protective structure over power Unit 4, as well as being acquainted with the history of the New Safe Confinement construction.
The Liquidators Memorial
As a last, but not least — The Liquidators Memorial. You will be told about the first victims of the 1986 accident at the Chernobyl NPP and the urgent measures to eliminate the disaster.
