WHY TOUR NAMIBIA?
Day 1: Arrival at Windhoek International Airport -> Depart to Kalahari Anib Lodge -> Lunch on own account -> Dinner at Kalahari Anib Lodge -> Overnight at Kalahari Anib Lodge
After arriving safely at the international airport in Windhoek, the Capital City of Namibia, you’ll jump into a car and head south towards the Kalahari Anib Lodge. To get there, you must first drive through the barren roads of the massive Kalahari Desert, which is basically the size of Germany and France combined. You’d be forgiven to think you’re on the set of a Mad Max film because of the miles of desert emptiness. Don’t forget your water! After the 3-hour trek, you can finally drop your bag, take in the tranquility of the savannah, and settle in your room at the Lodge in the middle of nowhere. Take advantage of the picturesque sights, large swimming pool, or delicious cuisine. Don’t forget to try the local wine! Rest for the evening, absorb the stories of the desert, and get one of the quietest night’s sleep as the adventure continues Day 2. Make sure you charge your phones.
Day 2: Early breakfast and departure to Luderitz -> Lunch on own account -> Luderitz Tour with Guide -> Dinner at a Luderitz Restaurant -> Overnight at Kairos Cottage
An early rise and shine with a continental breakfast at the Lodge will prepare you for the journey ahead. Ready for another desert crossing? This time your destination is the harbor town of Luderitz right where the coast of the Atlantic Ocean meets the massive desert backdrop. Named after a controversial German tobacco merchant, this small coastal town is an excellent example of early European colonial architecture and a hidden past that some historians have connected to WWII. You’ll arrive just in time for lunch, where you can feast on the local delicacies in a neighborhood restaurant. As the expert guide will tour you around the town, you can take lots of photos of the landmarks arising from the desert floor like zombie film. Now your cottage and dinner await you right on the peninsula of Shark Island. The beautiful space of the Kairos Cottage will match the stunning sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to have your cameras ready! Enjoy the rest because the fun doesn’t stop here.
Day 3: Breakfast at Kairos Cottage -> Guided Kolmanskop Visit -> Lunch on own account -> Depart to Namib Desert Lodge -> Dinner at Namib Desert Lodge -> Overnight at Namib Desert Lodge
Upon waking you can drink a morning tea or coffee on the balcony overlooking the striking view, while your breakfast is being served in the dining room of the Kairos Cottage. After your first meal of the day, there is a quick 15-minute drive towards the once prosperous mining town of Kolmanskop (“Coleman’s Head”). Now an adventurer’s dream, the guided tour tells the stories of this abandoned settlement, and you will also see the sand which is slowly swallowing the buildings in this ghost town. Its spine shivering Urbex exploration at best. Be sure to keep your eye out for a rogue diamond on the ground! After some lunch, you drive 6-hours north through the vast and epic desert, passing the rusted and abandoned cars, iron-rich sands, the wildlife of Africa, along the way towards the Tropic of Capricorn crossing and the Naukluft Mountains. The final stop on the day, the Namib Desert Lodge opens their doors and sets their dinner tables for you. This amazing place on the foot of ancient, fossilized dunes is the perfect escape where you can even sleep under the stars.
Day 4: Sossusvlei Excursion with Guide -> Sesriem Excursion with Guide -> Lunch on own account -> Dinner at Namib Desert Lodge -> Overnight at Namib Desert Lodge
Waking at the Lodge and eating a fulfilling breakfast, you’ll venture to Sossusvlei, the area of ‘No Return’. Here you can crawl up the impressive ‘Big Daddy’ dune, which is one of tallest dunes in the world (at 325 meters). You will then explore the neighboring Deadvlei, an area surrounded by dunes and an amazing white clay pan featuring ancient fossilized camel thorn trees – also a popular film location. Next on the list of guided tours for the day is incredible Sesriem Canyon, at 1 kilometer long, 30 meters deep, and only 2 meters wide at some points, you are sure to be in awe. You will then return to the Namib Desert Lodge for your second dinner and an early rest.
Day 5: Early breakfast and departure to Swakopmund -> Lunch on own account -> Activities on offer for own account -> Dinner in a Swakopmund Restaurant (not incl) -> Overnight at The Delight
In the morning and after an early breakfast, you will embark on a 300 km drive to the small coastal town of Swakopmund, meaning ‘Mouth of the Swakop’ river. The largest German settlement in Africa at the turn of the last century, it still boasts colonial architecture, seaside promenades along the Atlantic Ocean, and streets lined with palm trees. Where the ocean clashes with the desert, it’s known as one of the most attractive locations in the country, so you can see why it was the filming location of many international productions, like Mad Max: Fury Road, miniseries, the Prisoner, and TV series, the Amazing Race. You have the day to put on your urbex boots and explore the hidden corners of the town, speak to the locals, or learn about the history at the museums and galleries, including the world’s largest quartz crystal cluster and other mineral treasures at the Kristall Galerie. After marveling at the culture, and nature, you can enjoy a delicious local dinner, drink a few cocktails, and spend the overnight stay at the quaint hotel, The Delight.
Day 6: Breakfast at The Delight -> Depart to Erindi Old Traders Lodge -> Lunch on own account -> PM Game Drive at Erindi -> Dinner at Erindi Old Traders Lodge -> Overnight at Erindi Old Traders Lodge
The last day on this epic adventure tour starts with a fresh breakfast at the Delight, followed by a three and half hour journey to the Old Traders Lodge at the ‘place of water,’ Erindi. If you also came to Namibia to see some of the wildlife, this place is going to blow you away. You will come up close to elephants, zebras and giraffes and that’s from your bedroom window! Just don’t go swimming with the crocodiles! After lunch, you will head to the Private Game Reserve in Erindi, which lets you witness all the safari animals in one place. Your expert guide knows all the animal hot spots in this 79,000 hectare reserve. The finest ecotourism on the planet. Return to the lodge for a wonderful dinner and swap your stories while you enjoy your last evening on the tour.
Day 7: Depart to Windhoek International Airport -> Lunch on own account -> Departure
